  • Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral

    The Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral (Portuguese: Sé Catedral de Nossa Senhora da Assunção) also called Lamego Cathedral s a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church that was founded in 1129. It is located in the city of Portuguese city of Lamego
    The temple follows the Roman or Latin rite and serves as the seat of the diocese of Lamego (Dioecesis Lamacensis or Diocese de Lamego) that was created about 570.
    It is a cathedral built in Gothic style, which preserves the bell tower original square, but the rest of the architecture reflects the changes made in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, including a Renaissance cloister with a dozen arches and well proportioned.

  • Our Lady of Remedios Sanctuary

    The temple presents, in its façade, traces of the baroque and rococo ("rocaille") styles. The façade is flanked by bell towers. Granite stone was used in its construction.

    Inside, the main altar with the image of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios sculpted in wood, and three stained-glass windows with the images of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Annunciation stand out.

    The two side altars are dedicated to the parents of the virgin (Saint Joaquim and Saint Ana). On one of the walls of the sanctuary, there are tile panels with scenes from the life of the Virgin.

    On the outside, the monumental staircase leading to the sanctuary, with 686 steps, develops in nine flights, decorated with chapels, statues, fountains and obelisks. On one of these levels - the so-called "Courtyard of the Kings" - stand out the images of eighteen kings of Israel, belonging to the family tree of the Virgin Mary. At the base of the staircase are four figures alluding to the four seasons of the year.

  • Torre do Castelo

    Sobranceiro a toda a cidade, o Castelo de Lamego, imponente e vigilante, afigura-se forte no cimo do monte mais alto da cidade, contemplando os rios Coura, Varosa e Balsemão, sentinela atenta a toda a cidade, às encostas do Douro, terras de Trás-os-Montes e Montemuro. De difícil acesso, devido ao acidentado do terreno e à muralha que rodeia a cidade antiga, foi porém palco de várias lutas pela defesa da mesma. Alta e robusta, a torre de menagem ameada ergue-se no ponto mais alto da cidade, a 543 metros de altitude. De planta quadrada e porta elevada a 2 metros do solo, tem três pisos de madeira fortemente encastoada nas duras paredes de pedra. Unido à torre de menagem por dois lados, surge um resistente muro de pedra sem ameias, com mais ou menos 2 metros de espessura e forma de polígono hexagonal irregular, formando assim a praça de armas.
